29 April 2022

Annually on April 21st is World Creativity and Innovation Day.

Creativity and innovation promote rethinking, a willingness to experiment and openness to new ideas and solution concepts. Diversity, interdisciplinarity and international cooperation can also increase creativity and innovation.

While creativity is defined as the turning of new ideas into reality, innovation refers to the creative process. Innovation means the design, development and introduction of a new product or service.

A concept closely related to creativity and innovation is design thinking. As a creative process and innovation approach, it leaves room for different ideas and ways of thinking and puts human needs in the foreground. At the same time, the approach includes the feasibility and cost-effectiveness of innovations.

EIC accelerator

The European Innovation Council (EIC) has created a special instrument for innovation projects by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The so-called EIC Accelerator is aimed at SMEs that develop disruptive, high-risk innovations with great market potential. It is primarily aimed at companies that have high growth potential and operate on a European or international level. The EIC Accelerator is aimed exclusively at individual applicants. The support usually takes the form of risk capital in the form of equity, which is intended in particular for activities that are very close to the market. Funding of up to 2.5 billion euros is granted (funding rate 70%). Since the instrument requires equity capital, it is mixed financing. The scope of this equity is between 0.5 and 15 million euros. More information about the EIC Accelerator can be found here.

Applications for funding are possible all year round via the EIC platform.
